The North East region has been involved since 2017 in a teaching partnership, made up of the 12 Local Authorities and 6 of the social work programme providers operating in the region. The aim of the teaching partnership is to strengthen the training and development of social workers from student to advanced practitioner. We believe as a teaching partnership that staff engaged with practice education are at the forefront of making resilient social workers fit for practice in the challenging world of social work. During the initial phase of the teaching partnership, it has proved challenging to collect data on qualifications and experience of PEs and PEs have raised issues around conditions and support for their role as a PE. In order to meet the demands for practice placements in our region, the teaching partnership would like to research the reality of practice education and use this data to inform the creation of a CPD programme for PEs and we have secured DfE funding to support this programme for 2018-19.
The information we collect from this research will serve three purposes:
- Create a database of PEs who can be provided with links to: tools and resources, surveys, opportunities to maintain currency, student placement calendars etc
- Provide a database of OSPEs to PVI placements to support their work with students
- Provide data for analysis of the current supply and currency of PEs in the north east region
Information will be shared with the PE co-ordinator from your LA or organisation, but your personal information will not be shared with any other organisation. The register will not be made publicly available. The teaching partnership has a legally binding partnership agreement that specifically covers data protection issues. As an OSPE you have the choice of whether to join this database of PE, but it should ensure that you receive information about training and development opportunities.
You will have been contacted about this research questionnaire because either a university or employer believe you are qualified to be a PE. If you are not involved in PE, please do not complete the survey. We would like the research questionnaire to be completed online by the end of June 2018.
