Induction of social work students
September 23 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
The ‘induction’ is a crucial part of a student social workers introduction to the world of social work education. It is extremely important to distinguish between the social care role, and that of the ‘student social worker’ who might be involved in statutory tasks. The workshop will give Practice Educators the opportunity to explore best practice guidance in relation to a student social worker induction. As well as looking at different approaches, the session will also give practice educators the opportunity to share current practices and explore new ways of working. This workshop should provide the underpinning knowledge, guidance and advice on how to do the job well, and how to provide students with the best learning opportunities.
The NESWA PE CPD programme was developed as a result of a Practice Educator survey undertaken last year. The findings of which highlighted the importance of Practice Educators meeting together, sharing resources and building on their knowledge and skills. The NESWA Practice Educators’ CPD has been created to bring this vibrant and hardworking community of practitioners together around a programme of several sessions that will cover topics such as induction ahead of practice placement; resources for practice education; working with students with physical and learning disabilities, as well as supporting students to critically reflect on their practice. The programme also includes special one off sessions on coaching and social work in a political context. An important component of all the sessions will be the opportunity for Practice Educators to network.
