Service User Co-Production and Participation in Mental Health – Tuesday 20th November, 9:00-12:00
Room 5, The Durham Centre, Belmont, Co. Durham, DH1 3TN
Participation, user led, collaboration, co-production are all common terms used to describe the involvement of people in learning, teaching and research. This masterclass will explore the meaning of these around the blurring of boundaries between service users, carers, academics and professionals to achieve positive change.
This approach requires a serious strategy and time commitment in valuing everyone’s experience, knowledge and skill. The session will therefore explore how we can develop a place for shared understanding and better impact in terms of learning, teaching and research. To achieve this, Sarah Lonbay will draw on her experience of working with service users teaching on the Social Work course at Northumbria University. Toby Brandon also from Northumbria University will discuss research with NTW and mental health services users.
Young people from Investing in Children (www.investinginchildren.net) will discuss the action and impact arising from work they have been involved in with young people’s mental health services over the past years.
This session will be delivered by Dr Sarah Lonbay and Dr Toby Brandon from Northumbria University together with Chris Affleck, Leah and Lyndsey from Investing in Children.
